Many families benefit from therapy when new or old stressors are present. These may include financial stress, concerns regarding mental illness and/or substance abuse, divorce/separation, life transitions, illness, death, or stress with one or more children. Whatever your family is experiencing, attending therapy together can be a positive experience.
Family therapy can be used as the sole method of treatment or it can be used in conjunction with individual therapy. A benefit of family therapy is opening up healthy communication between members of the family. Many families struggle with healthy communication or feel as though they are not supported or heard. By going to therapy together, families have the opportunity to learn how to communicate effectively, work through tough situations, and support one another with the guidance of an unbiased individual.
